Roasted Chickpeas

Chickpeas have quickly become my new favorite snack.  Not only have I found the taste more appealing than nuts, they offer an inexpensive, high fiber, high protein alternative to processed savory snacks. A handful of these roasted beans provide a salty, crunchy treat to help curb hunger pangs and stabilize blood sugar levels. With the recent gift of an AirFryer, I found they are even easier and faster to make.

Second to the soybean, the chickpea is the next most widely grown and eaten bean in the world and a staple in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean diets.

Just half a cup of the beans makes them the perfect snack at 134 calories packed with:

  • 6.3 grams of dietary fiber
  • 7.3 grams of protein
  • 2.1 grams of fat

Not only are they vegan-friendly and packed with a variety of nutrients, but they will curb your desire for crunch and can be nibbled alone or as a great topper to salads.  They truly prove to be a superfood and super snack!

AirFryer Roasted Chickpeas

Prep time:  20 min.


  • 1 can of organic chickpeas
  • 1 Tbsp. melted coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1 capsule Puremark Naturals turmeric

The night before, drain and rinse the chickpeas. Spread them across a clean dry towel.  The dryer they get, the easier it will be to roast them to a golden crunchy perfection.

Preheat your airfyer for 3-4 minutes on 390 degrees.

In a mixing bowl, add all ingredients and toss until peas are well coated.

Spread the peas into a single layer in the AirFryer basket and cook at 390 degrees for 9-11 minutes.  You will want to open the basket after about 5 minutes to swirl in the basket.

Adjust your cook time for  your desired texture.

Tip:  Coconut oil in its natural state may be liquid or solid depending on the time of year or climate of your home.  As you collect your ingredients and preheat your air fryer or oven, measure out the coconut oil into a small glass cup and sit that cup down into a slightly larger bowl filled an inch or two with hot water. The coconut oil will quickly melt to a liquid state ready to use without the need to microwave.


Oven Baking Method:  Preheat oven to 450 degrees.  Spread the dried chickpeas on a jelly roll baking sheet.  Bake for 35 – 40 minutes, until the desired golden brown and crunchy texture.

Seasoning Options:  You can mix up the flavor by getting creative with the spice blend you use.  Consider adding chili powder for a spicier flavor.  Other great alternatives include garlic or onion powder.  A sprinkle of ground Parmesan cheese, sea salt, parsley and onion powder makes a tasty ranch flavor.
